Therapeutic strategy in the treatment of one case of bloodstream infection complicated with intracranial and pulmonary infections

ABSTRACT  Objective: To introduce the practice and experience of clinical pharmacists involved in the treatment of a hospitalized patient of blood stream infection complicated with intracranial and pulmonary infections.Methods: The treatment strategy of anti-bacterial and antiepileptic drugs was analyzed through recording of clinical manifestations associated with various laboratory indicators and categories of anti-infectious and antiepileptic drugs,treatment courses and drug combination profiles.Results: During hospitalization,the patient was treated in sequence with various combinations of antibiotics,including ceftriaxone sodium plus ornidazole,meropenem plus vancomycin,piperacillin sodium/tazobactam sodium plus vancomycin plus linezolid,minocycline plus levofloxacin etc.Sodium valproate,carbamazepine,sodium valproate plus phenobarbital were used to control epileptic seizure.The patient eventually returned to conscious state,and infectious symptoms were improved,body temperature and various kinds of inflammation indexes returned to normal,and was discharged from hospital 28 days after admission.Conclusion: A medical team containing clinical pharmacists and physicians could improve treatment effectiveness and highten the therapeutic thinking of clinical pharmacists.
