Utilization of antihypertensive drugs in 34 hospitals of Nanjing area from 2013 to 2015

ABSTRACT  Objective: To evaluate the status,characteristics and trend of the utilization of antihypertensive drugs in 34 hospitals of Nanjing area.Methods: A retrospective analysis was made on the categories,consumption sum and DDDs of antihypertensive drugs in 34 hospitals from 2013-2015.Results:In the last 3 years,consumption sum and DDDs of antihypertensive drugs increased by a small margin,and the compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) were 3.00% and 0.63%,respectively.The consumption sum and DDDs of angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blocker (ARBs) increased year by year,and the CAGRs were 10.81% and 11.10%,respectively.The consumption sum and DDDs of calcium channel blockers (CCBs) displayed a negative growth rate,with the CAGRs being -6.33% and -8.29%, respectively.The top 4 consumption sums of antihypertensive drugs were valsartan,amlodipine,irbesartan and losartan,with the consumption sum of valsartan ranking the first,accounting for 21.23% of the total consumption sum of antihypertensive drugs,and the DDDs ranking the second,accounting for 13.29% of the total DDDs.The DDDs of amlodipine ranked the first,but it also displayed a negative growth rate year by year,with the CAGR being -6.14%.Conclusion: The antihypertensive drugs commonly used in the 34 hospitals in Nanjing area have taken a considerable change from 2013-2015.The consumption sum and the DDDs of CCBs decreased significantly,and the ARBs have gradually become the main category of the drugs.
